Samsung Display is accelerating the mass production of Quantum dot-organic light-emitting diode (QD-OLED), the next-generation display.
According to a number of industry sources on 15th, Samsung Display decided to invest in the introduction of QD-OLED equipment at the investment review committee in early April and set about introducing the pilot facility. The introduction of the facility is expected to close in the spring of next year, with production of 20,000 units per month and 200,000 units per year.
It seems that the L8-1 line in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, which has been used as a pilot test line, has been converted to a QD-OLED production facility. The industry expects to expand to the L8-2 line.
Samsung Display said that it is in the process of developing QD-OLED technology as one of the future technologies in conference call after announcement of 4th last year's results. In January of this year, 'CES 2019' was held in Las Vegas, USA, and it was announced that a small number of industry participants showed prototype 65-inch QD-OLED display.
QD-OLED is a three-primary color (RGB) of light consisting of red (R), green (G) and blue (B) To be applied. It is different from WOLED of LG Display that uses white (W) as light emitting layer.
The backlight unit (BLU) that was pointed out was eliminated, and each device was able to self-emit. In the conventional large-sized display, it was difficult to implement the ink-jet printing method due to the difficulty in printing the RGB pattern. But in the industry, QuantumDot believes that the technology can be implemented sufficiently.
Quantum dot is a nanometer (nm) semiconductor that changes the wavelength of light according to its size. Especially, it is known that deep colors can be realized and color recall is high.
Samsung Display has been strong in mid- and small-sized OLEDs, but large-sized OLEDs have been mass-produced due to production yields in 2013. Since then, LG Display has been far ahead in the related markets.
In the industry, Chinese companies' LCD panel competition is intensifying, while Samsung Display believes that QD-OLED, which emphasizes its technological prowess, is the future food. It is also evaluated that it will be able to lead the large OLED market by producing QD-OLED panels.
With the QD-OLED panel production of Samsung Display, it is predicted that Samsung Electronics will again enter the OLED TV market. A Samsung Electronics official said, "It has not been decided whether mass production of QD-OLED panel of Samsung Display will lead to QD-OLED TV lineup configuration."
4,55 Nachkaufen,,!!
Samsung Display is expected to start investing in the quantum dot-blue (QD-OLED) panel production plant this year and speed up catching up with LG Display, which dominates the large all-red panel market.
"The core of the 2019 All-Red market will be Quantum dot-red," said Kyu-jin Lee, the Best Investment & Securities Researcher. "Samsung Display will start the quantum dot-red TV panel business from the second half of the year."
Samsung Display is expected to invest in production to convert a portion of its existing LCD panel plant to Quantum dot-red in the second half.
Quantum dot OLED is considered a next-generation TV panel that adds Samsung Display's own image quality enhancement to large all-red panels.
The basic structure of LG Display is similar to that of all-red TV panels currently produced by LG Display, but Samsung Electronics is expected to generate synergies based on technology and know-how applied to QLED TV.
"Samsung Display is pursuing LG Display's all-red TV market," said Kang. "We will aim to produce differentiated TV panels by using technical know-how."
Samsung Display's entry into the Quantum dot-red business is anticipated in preparation for a change in Samsung Electronics' TV business strategy.
"Samsung Electronics' QLED TV has been judged to be insufficient in the high-end TV market compared to LG Electronics All-Red TV." Samsung Electronics will not be able to continue its QLED TV sales strategy in the mid- to long- .
In the end, it means Samsung Display is likely to start full-fledged facility investment for Samsung Electronics to launch Quantum dot-red TV.
It is estimated that the amount invested in facility investment by Samsung Display in 2018 is only 2.252 trillion won. The figure is 81.9% lower than in 2017. Samsung Display's small and medium-sized all-red panel demand fell sharply, and facility investment suffered.
However, the facility investment amount in 2019 is likely to surge to W4 trillion and the investment in 2020 to W6 trillion.
"We will start investing in mass production of Quantum dot-red panels in earnest starting from 2020 while gradually increasing the investment size," he said. "We wanted to invest in a new plant in 2021."
Samsung Display is expected to shut down the LCD production line sequentially and to start mass production of Quantum dot-red TV panel production equipment from end-2019.
The researcher predicted that Samsung will launch Quantum dot-red TV in the second half of 2020 as early as possible and in the first half of 2021 as late as possible.
By 2022, Samsung Display is expected to have a panel production capacity of 2.2 million units per month based on 65-inch products through steady investment in facilities. [Business Post]
Sell the demontstrator ..... It seems that the L8-1 line in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, which has been used as a pilot test line, has been converted to a QD-OLED production facility. The industry expects to expand to the L8-2 line.

Fits imo perfectly with the deadlines and steps Felix has communicated. In addition Uwe Schupp reiterated the € 14 target share price this morning. I guess he read the article before any of us.
We were to busy discussing the startegy of the short sellers , the amoumt of share traded before the opening bell and share price development during the past minutes.
Thank you very, very much for your contribution to this forum!!!!
The managers of Aixtron laid out a road map for its strategy 3 years years ago and executed accordingly. What we are seeing today comes from the good management and execution of that road map. We should appreciate and give credits to it. This something that you and I and the short sellers have no control of. While I just enjoy peeling the onion and reading tea leaves. Let us hope that we can see some tangible results soon.
1-3 Monate Inbetriebnahme
While I just enjoy peeling the onion and reading tea leaves.
You are the first person that I know that enjoys peeling onions. But what you say makes sense. Management executed according to plan. They never promised anything on OLED, but it seems they are close to delivering the first test pilot fruits.

PS: I thought Kölsch beer was the drink of choice to tolarate the Stammtisch-Gebabbel. Now I understand that you are opening a second option where tea is the drink of choice. Can we spice that up with a bit of Whisky perhaps?
