In 1930 Keynes had already grasped many of the issues, reflecting on the economic possibilities for our grandchildren. Capitalism may have a major problem with the transformations that jobs are experiencing due to rapid technological advance. Inequality and debt will increase. If the wealthy holding the copyright for artificial intelligence accumulate the savings, this will give rise to a cycle of stagnation. This is the main risk for the future. Economics will have to understand what to measure. Today there are already many zero sum activities for the GDP. Art will not be automated. Repetitive jobs will. ‘Face-to-face’ activities (care, assistance, home delivery of food) are increasingly widespread but also the most underpaid.
