...In July, China began imposing duties as high as 57 percent on U.S. polysilicon imports.
The U.S. solar-energy industry, which includes manufacturers as well as installers of solar panels, has been caught in the crosshairs. While import duties on Chinese-made solar cells have benefited some U.S. manufacturers, they have made the finished panels more expensive, harming panel installers and consumers who face higher prices for the finished product, according to Smirnow.
At the same time, Chinese manufacturers face higher prices as they seek to avoid U.S. duties, he said. Since the tariffs set by the Commerce department last year apply only to Chinese-made solar cells, solar panel manufacturers in the Asian nation are buying cells at a premium in Taiwan and putting together the finished panels in China before shipping them to the U.S., Smirnow said.
Manufacturers’ Fund
The U.S. industry plan would abolish the U.S. duties on solar cells from China, as well as China’s tariffs on U.S.-made polysilicon. Instead, China’s solar-energy companies would establish a fund in the U.S. that American solar-cell manufacturers could draw from to help them “scale-up,” Smirnow said. While the size of the fund would be negotiated based on market estimates, it would probably be in the hundreds of millions of dollars over the next 3 years ..

.....The company has projects totalling 802 megawatts in the pipeline, including major developments in the Canada, United States, China and Japan. And while cash-strapped governments are revisiting subsidies paid to solar around the world, the company expects the market to continue to expand as countries such as Japan move away from nuclear and China is desperate to generate clean power to address its pollution crisis.

79561 Postings, 9143 Tage KickyPakistanis turn to Canadian Solar Panels

.....Across Pakistan, people need a quick fix to an electricity crisis that is crippling the country’s economy and eroding its quality of life. Unwilling to wait for their government to build promised dams and plants, ordinary Pakistanis are snapping up solar panels – not because they are eco-conscious but because they are desperate.

“Last year, there was no acceptance of solar being a solution. This year, people have come to realize that this is something that would help them in the power crisis,” said Abdullah Umer, head of the Lahore flagship store of Nizam Energy, whose company has teamed up with Guelph-based Canadian Solar to sell made-in-China panels. It has completed more than 100 commercial and residential projects in 10 months. “We’ve only touched, I think, about 15 to 20 per cent of the [solar] market up until now – 80 per cent of the market is still untapped,” he said.....

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed interest in alternative energies like solar power as an important part of the solution to the electricity crisis. During a visit to China this month, he visited a solar company and invited Chinese investment in Pakistan.

Last month, Mr. Sharif’s younger brother, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, said his province was teaming up with the Asian Development Bank to deliver solar energy projects totalling 2,000 megawatts.....

79561 Postings, 9143 Tage KickyEarnings per Share Schätzung CSIQ Topwert

The chart below shows earnings per share (EPS) estimates for solar companies for the next three years. These are the consensus assessments, averaging projections from firms who cover these companies. The dark blue shows estimates for fiscal year 2014, the medium blue FY 2015, and the light blue FY 2016.
http://static.cdn-seekingalpha.com/uploads/2013/9/...6776765_rId9.jpg

The company with the most consistent, and most promising earnings estimates, is First Solar (FSLR). EPS are projected to remain high for FSLR over the next three years. CSIQ shows the greatest improvement, much of the reason why the forward-looking stock market has generated huge gains for this China-based solar cell and module company.

Even the companies that have negative earnings show marked improvement in their EPS projections. While some of these may be good long-term investments, companies projected to have negative consensus earnings three years out look quite speculative.

September 27, 2013 groSolar has announced the completion of a 3 MW AC solar photovoltaic (PV) system in Berkley, Massachusetts. This is the second municipal utility‑tied project which groSolar has built in Massachusetts this year. The first was a 2 MW AC system in Sterling, completed in early January 2013.

Both projects are co-owned by Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ), one of the worlds largest solar power companies, and INDU Solar Holdings a joint venture between subsidiaries of Duke Energy and of Integrys Energy Services. The projects were developed by Community Energy Solar, LLC.

79561 Postings, 9143 Tage KickyRally gets Option Bulls fired up

The solar sector is on fire today, and Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ:CSIQ) is no exception. The stock was last seen 8.1% higher at $16.50, after touching a new two-year high of $16.65 in earlier trading. Against this backdrop, options traders are making a mad dash for CSIQ call contracts, in order to gamble on more short-term upside for the security.

In afternoon action, the stock has seen roughly 15,000 calls change hands -- nearly eight times its average intraday call volume, and close to 10 times the number of CSIQ puts exchanged. Reflecting the escalating demand for the options is the security's 30-day, at-the-money implied volatility (IV), which has skyrocketed 5.1 percentage points, or 7.8%, to 69.8%.

Most popular is the October 15 call, where nearly 7,000 contracts have crossed at a volume-weighted average price (VWAP) of $1.84. The majority of the calls traded on the ask side, and IV at the strike was last seen 6.2 percentage points higher, hinting at newly bought bullish bets......

The bulk of Canadian Solar's manufacturing facilities are located in China.
