Egypt signed an agreement with the Canadian company Bombardier on Tuesday for the financing and construction of Line 6 of Greater Cairo's metro, state-run news agency MENA reported.

The deal was announced by Transportation Minister Hesham Arafat, who said the project will reduce pressure on the metro's existing Line 1.

The new route will be 20 kilometers in length, with a total of 24 stations, 12 of them underground, with an initial cost estimate of $4 billion.

The deal, which was signed between the Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation (ECMMO) and Bombardier, stipulates that at least 40 percent of the materials used must be produced in Egypt, thereby promoting local production.

The proposed line will run from northern Cairo, near the ring road, then head south, passing through Greater Cairo's Shubra El-Kheima and New Maadi, ending at the start of Ain El-Sokhna Road.

"The ministry will speed up the implementation of the metro's Line 6 to reduce pressure on Line 1," the minister was quoted as saying.

However, Tuesday's statement did not set a specific time frame for the contsruction project.

Arafat explained that Line 6 will intersect with Line 1 at Ghamra station and Line 4 at Fustat station.

He added that the capacity of Line 1 is 1.8 million passengers, yet it carries 2 million passengers a day.

Line 6 will accommodate around half a million passengers, he said.

Arafat said that the ministry is implementing a number of metro projects simultaneously.

There are currently three metro lines operating, with Lines 4 and 5 still under construction.

Egypt increased the metro-ticket price to EGP 2 in March. The ticket price will range between EGP 2 and EGP 4 by the last quarter of 2018, depending on the trip distance, the minister said in press statements early this week.

According to estimates by the country's national tunnels authority, over 3.5 million of Greater Cairo's 21 million inhabitants rely on the metro for their daily travel, partly due to its low cost.

Cairo’s underground system, launched in 1987, is one of the oldest in the Middle East and Africa.

Moin zusammen,

@Grappler
Selbst in Nordamerika (USA, glaube explizit UBahn LA?!

SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Planemaker Bombardier (BBDb.TO) aims to close deals with Chinese airlines in time for an expected trip by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to China next month, a senior Bombardier executive said on Tuesday.

Marc Meloche, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft’s head of structured finance, told Reuters the planemaker was in talks with carriers, including China’s three largest airlines, and leasing businesses on purchasing its C-Series plane.

“Prime Minister Trudeau is coming to China next month so there is optimism that Bombardier will be among those able to announce deals on that trip,” he said.

“Bombardier is talking to all three big Chinese airlines, as well as many regional (players) and start-ups. All are very interested in the Bombardier C-Series.”

Bombardier is pushing hard for orders in China, the world’s fastest-growing aviation market, at a time when it faces threats to U.S. sales of the C-Series single-aisle jet because of a trade dispute with U.S. rival Boeing (BA.N).

The U.S. government is on Tuesday expected to slap a preliminary anti-subsidy duty on sales of C-Series jets over that dispute.

The C-Series competes with some aircraft made by Brazil’s Embraer SA (EMBR3.SA), as well as the smallest planes made by Boeing and Airbus (AIR.PA).

Meloche also said that several Chinese lessors, many of which were looking at sale-and-leaseback opportunities, had issued term sheets in support of C-Series deliveries.

New rules requiring Chinese airline start-ups to operate at least 25 smaller-city hopper jets before graduating to bigger aircraft have also fueled hopes of Chinese demand for C-Series jets.

While current C-Series models accommodate 110 to 130 seats, above China’s 100-seat limit for regional jets, Meloche said Bombardier can make adjustments to meet the requirements.

He also said Bombardier could expand its activities at China’s Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, which already makes part of the fuselage for its C-series and Q-series aircraft.

But unlike Boeing and Airbus, which are expanding production facilities in China, he said Bombardier had not discussed the possibility of a separate aircraft plant in the country.

115 Postings, 3288 Tage LOGAN5Wunder gibt es immer wieder ....

MONTREAL - Canadian plane and train manufacturer Bombardier Inc  took big hits to prospects for growth in its core units this week, putting it under increased pressure to find new markets for its jets and a potential new train maker partner.

On Tuesday, the U.S. imposed preliminary anti-subsidy duties that would effectively block Bombardier jet sales in a key market if upheld.

Meanwhile, Germany's Siemens AG  opted to merge its rail business with France's Alstom SA  instead of Bombardier's Berlin-based rail unit.

However, the Canadian plane and train maker is still pursuing talks on jet sales to China, potential European jet orders, and a $33 billion train order backlog which may help keep its turnaround plan on track.

With C$9 billion in debt and future orders of its CSeries jet in the United States possibly blocked, some say Bombardier may face pressure to raise money to compete on its own against a newly-created European rail giant.

"They (Bombardier) need fresh money," said Maria Leenen, chief executive of German rail consultancy SCI Verkehr. "They will have to defend that (their turf) against the strong new player."

Analysts and company insiders see the potential U.S. duties on its flagship jet program as a bigger risk than the failed European rail merger.

Bombardier is in a stronger position than it was in 2015, when it considered bankruptcy after the CSeries program fell behind schedule and sucked up capital. Cash infusions from the Quebec government in the CSeries plane production, and by Quebec's pension fund in the rail business, helped it buy time to launch a turnaround program.

But Bombardier is once again facing uncertainty that will weigh on its share price. The stock fell 14 percent on Wednesday before recovering to close down 7.49 percent at C$2.10.

"The transformation plan requires that the company continue to ramp production and deliveries of the CSeries," said Raymond James transportation analyst Steve Hansen.

"In the short term that's not an issue, but I'd say over the medium term it is an issue and they will want to be able to sell to some of these U.S. airlines."

With the U.S. market in doubt for now, Bombardier is pushing hard for its first CSeries sale in China. A senior Bombardier executive told Reuters on Tuesday that it aims to close deals with Chinese airlines in coming months.

Sources said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will soon visit China, where part of the CSeries fuselage is made, suggesting deals could be announced. Officials familiar with the plan say it is likely to take place in December.

"There’s an excess of 56 carriers in China but five to six are really big," said Robert McWhirter, president and portfolio manager at Selective Asset Management in Toronto. "If they standardize on some of the Bombardier airframes, then most of the problems are solved."

Meanwhile, rail unit Bombardier Transportation (BT) may need a partner at some point to compete against the new European giant created by the deal between Siemens and Alstom and China's merged rail behemoth, CRRC Corp Ltd. <601766.SS>. For now, it has the heft to stand alone, analysts and company insiders say.

"Suddenly the chess board has changed but Bombardier is not small," said a source familiar with the matter.

In addition, BT can scoop up contracts in the near-term while Siemens and Alstom focus on integrating their businesses.

Trade experts are not convinced that Boeing's CSeries trade complaint will be upheld in 2018 by an independent U.S. trade body currently composed of four commissioners from both American political parties.

The International Trade Commission (ITC) will decide whether the CSeries, which was sold to Delta Air Lines , and are to be delivered in 2018, harmed Boeing, which did not compete for the order with one of its planes.

"There's a real question as to whether the Commission will determine a company to be threatened with injury when it doesn't produce a directly competing project," former ITC chairman Dan Pearson said by email. "And the actual delivery of aircraft ... is at least a couple years away." REUTERS

115 Postings, 3288 Tage LOGAN5Neuer Auftrag aus Indien

Mr. Bryan Tucker reports:

BOMBARDIER SIGNS LARGEST EVER Q400 TURBOPROP ORDER WITH SPICEJET FOR UP TO 50 AIRCRAFT

Bombardier Inc.'s Bombardier Commercial Aircraft has concluded a firm purchase agreement with SpiceJet Ltd. of Gurgaon, India, for up to 50 Q400 turboprop airliners, making it the largest single order ever for the Q400 turboprop aircraft program and bringing total Q400 firm orders to over 600 Q400 aircraft. Upon delivery, the airline will become the first in the world to operate a 90-seat turboprop, pending certification by regulatory authorities.

The purchase agreement includes 25 Q400 turboprops and purchase rights on an additional 25 aircraft. Based on list prices, the order is valued at up to US $ 1.7 billion.

"We are very proud to firm up this agreement with SpiceJet as it is another demonstration of the Q400's unique versatility. This repeat order will not only increase the Q400 aircraft fleet in the fast-growing regional market in India and in the Asia-Pacific region but will also launch the high-density 90-passenger model," said Fred Cromer, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. "This order confirms the airlines' increased capacity needs on regional routes with high passenger demand and demonstrates the increased profitability potential that this unique turboprop configuration has to offer."

"I am pleased to confirm SpiceJet's latest order for up to 50 Bombardier Q400 planes, which has been announced at the Paris Air Show. I am sure this fresh order will help us further enhance connectivity to smaller towns and cities and help realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of ensuring that every Indian can fly," said Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet. "SpiceJet operates India's largest regional fleet and has always been a firm believer in the growth story of India's smaller towns and cities. We have worked hard over the years to put these smaller towns on the country's aviation map and will strive to keep that momentum going in the times to come."

"We have been witnessing growth in the number of passengers per departure in the turboprop market, and especially in India. Today, Bombardier offers the largest turboprop aircraft available on the market and SpiceJet will be the first airline to take advantage of the profitable and efficient operations that the 90-passenger high-density Q400 will offer them," said Francois Cognard, Vice President, Sales, South-Asia and Australasia.

Since 2010, SpiceJet has taken delivery of 15 new Q400 aircraft. The airline currently operates 20 Q400 aircraft in a 78-seat configuration to domestic and international destinations. This fleet expansion will provide SpiceJet with the ability to grow profitably and leverage the robust demand forecast in the world's fastest growing regional aviation market.

Bombardier's Q Series turboprops and CRJ Series regional jets have made significant advances in the Australasia region where approximately 380 aircraft - including more than 240 Q Series turboprops -- are in service with or on order by over 45 customers and operators.

Bombardier's customer support network for commercial aircraft in the Asia-Pacific region includes Regional Support Offices in Gurgaon (India), Tokyo (Japan), Sydney (Australia), Shanghai (China) and Singapore (Singapore), as well as Parts Services Depots in Sydney (Australia), Tianjin (China), Narita (Japan) and Singapore (Singapore). The network also includes three strategically located Authorized Service Facilities -- GMR Aero Technic in Hyderabad (India), STAECO in Jinan (China) and Hawker Pacific in Cairns (Australia). Operating from the company's regional office located in Singapore, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft's sales and marketing team is well positioned to provide industry-leading solutions to its current and prospective customers.

Including SpiceJet's order, Bombardier has recorded firm orders for a total of 610 Q400 aircraft.

Moin zusammen,

http://www.handelsblatt.com/unternehmen/...ck-in-kanada/20464080.html

Daily Egypt News learned from sources at EgyptAir that the company agreed to use 12 C300 aircrafts.

Sources said that the company decided to use the 130-passenger aircraft instead of the company’s Embraers, which will be put up for sale.

The sources also said the company had decided to buy six Boeing Dreamliner aircraft, which will be received in batches starting from the first quarter (Q1) of 2019.

In addition, EgyptAir will use 15 Airbus 320 aeroplanes. The company is working to agree with the manufacturers to have the right to use other planes of the same type with the same conditions and prices in the future. EgyptAir has also received 59 offers from banks to fund the venture to upgrade its fleet as part of a plan aimed at growth in the coming period.

Chairperson of EgyptAir Holding Company Safwat Mosallam said the offers were put forward by local financing institutions and banks that had agreed in principle to finance the new aircraft deal for the company.

He noted that Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) also expressed its willingness to finance the deal, especially as it financed the company’s latest deal that included nine Boeing B737-800 NG worth $868m. The company has received seven of these planes and will receive the eighth very soon. This will be the 68th plane in the company’s fleet and the 28th of this model, which is the bestselling in Boeing 737 category.
