..und ethanol wird knapp, die preise steigen..abwarten
US Energy Information Administration said Inventories plunged to 17.4 million barrels, the lowest level since December 2011. Production has averaged 797,000 barrels a day for the first 12 weeks of the year, down 13 percent from a year earlier.
“We can't seem to maintain our production numbers,” said Jerrod Kitt, an analyst at Linn Group in Chicago. “There's definitely going to be some supply concerns going forward.”
Denatured ethanol for April delivery rose 4.6 cents, or 1.8 percent, to $2.583 a gallon on the Chicago Board of Trade. Prices have risen 18 percent this year.
Production may also be hampered by a shortage of rail cars as some idled ethanol companies sublet theirs for transporting products from shale deposits and to capitalize on surging prices for them, Kitt said.
This is the first time in records going back to 2010 that stockpiles haven't risen during the January to March period, data from the Energy Department's analytical arm show.
“You went from building inventories between January and March to drawing them down,” Kitt said. Stockpiles rose 26 percent in the first quarter of 2012 and 19 percent in the first quarter of 2011.
West Coast ethanol's premium to the US Gulf was unchanged at 16.5 cents. Chicago's discount to New York Harbor narrowed to 8.5 cents, the lowest level since March 11.
