Gaussin invents the zero-emission “skateboard” for heavy goods vehicles The Franche-Comté company has developed a modular platform for road trucks, 100% hydrogen and electric. Gaussin will market it from 2021 in the form of licenses to manufacturers, players in logistics and e-commerce or even bodybuilders.

Through Monique Clemens Posted on May 5, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. In the automotive sector, the rolling base or the “skateboard” designates a platform that integrates mechanical and energy systems adaptable to different vehicles in a modular architecture. Specialized in the engineering of transport and logistics systems, the Gaussin company , based in Héricourt in Haute-Saône, has developed a “skateboard” for zero-emission trucks.
It is a rolling, versatile and customizable platform, powered by electricity and hydrogen, which it is preparing to market through a new dedicated subsidiary. “One and the same skateboard suitable for straight tractors and heavy goods vehicles, with the addition of axles, which is appropriate for 80% of each of the two markets worldwide,” explains Christophe Gaussin, CEO of the family group.
Lightweight frame The innovation lies in this open platform concept, but also in the lightness of the chassis, designed by the European teams of the Canadian Magna . Despite the battery systems, fuel cells and hydrogen tanks that it carries, it is 400 kg less than a standard chassis thanks to innovative assembly processes and to a play on the structure of the components.
Gaussin announces a range of 800 km in the hydrogen version, with a refueling time of less than twenty minutes, and 400 km in electric, for a battery change in three minutes, and a total range of 1,200 km for semi-trailers, dump trucks, tank trucks or rotors from 18 to 44 tonnes that it will equip.
As for the marketing concept, which will start in 2021, it will be based on a licensing system allowing rapid global deployment to manufacturers, but also energy companies, logistics and e-commerce players, truck distributors, bodybuilders as well as from companies that are embarking on autonomous vehicles. “We will also be offering a 'Transport as a service' offer,” adds Christophe Gaussin, who is also announcing the upcoming launch of his own truck based on zero-emission skateboarding.
