On a per-share basis, the Denver-based company said it had net income of $2.76. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 95 cents per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 94 cents per share.
The kidney dialysis provider posted revenue of $3.73 billion in the period, missing Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.76 billion.
DaVita HealthCare shares have dropped 17 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased roughly 3 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $57.97, a drop of 26 percent in the last 12 months.
