Bentley Communications Corp. to Provide Free NSF Check Recovery and Merchant Services to the 50,000 Businesses That Trade Through Exchanges on Its Crump Barter Network THURSDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2003 9:03 AM - BusinessWire BTLY 0.0435 +0.0065 LOS ANGELES, Oct 23, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Bentley Communications Corp. (BTLY) , the emerging leader in the online trade and barter industry, will offer a comprehensive range of valuable ancillary business services, including free NSF check recovery, to the estimated 50,000 companies that trade through the exchanges on its Crump Barter Systems subsidiary. Several of the new business services will be provided through an affiliation with CollectAChek, Inc. of Ypsilanti, Michigan, a leading NSF check recovery and cash management company.
Under the agreement, CollectAChek will recover Non-Sufficient-Funds (NSF) checks, up to $2,500 written by consumers, at no cost to businesses that are members of the 180 exchanges on the Crump Barter Network. Check recovery is done electronically for the merchant by debiting the NSF writer's bank account. In addition to recovering the full face value of collected bounced checks, it often allows many merchants to accept consumer checks without a costly guarantee service or expensive collection agencies. CollectAChek and Bentley will share collection fees recovered from the bad check writer's account, which is set by each state.
In addition to collecting NSF consumer checks for free, NSF business-to-business checks can also be collected for ten percent of the face amount of the check plus the state allowed fee. This is considerably less than the fees typically charged by traditional commercial collection agencies. Third party checks, which are usually payroll checks that merchants accept, can be collected in a similar manner.
Other services Bentley will offer through its affiliation with CollectAChek include:
