The Western Australian Government has launched a A$450,000 ($282,800) study with ITM Power and Linde Engineering to develop a business case for manufacturing hydrogen electrolysers within the State.
H2 View understands that ITM and Linde will explore the feasibility of electrolyser assembly and manufacture in the Australian State as the expansion of hydrogen production continues.
It is hoped the business case will increase the depth of industry information available, leverage funding from the private sector, promote competition, and signal to the market that the State is serious about renewable hydrogen.
According to the State Government, Western Australia could boast up to 100GW of renewable hydrogen generation capacity by 2030.
Alannah MacTiernan, Hydrogen Industry Minister, said, “Developing WA’s advanced manufacturing capabilities to produce critical components for renewable hydrogen production just make sense, as it will increase the resilience of our future hydrogen supply chains.
“Funding this feasibility study is the first step toward manufacturing component for renewable hydrogen within the State. We want to be part of the full technology story in hydrogen.
“We look forward to working closely with the partnership of ITM Power and Linde Engineering in Australia to help WA lead the nation in renewable hydrogen component manufacturing.”
In May (2022), the Western Australian Government suggested that in order to support the growing hydrogen ecosystem in the region, a Renewable Hydrogen Target should be investigated and established.
