Why the Windows Phone has a bright future


In fact, Windows is growing faster than and other operating system and its best days might still be ahead....
..... This conclusion is based on recent numbers from Kantar WorldPanel ComTech. It shows Windows increased its U.S. market share from 2.9% in the second quarter of 2012 to 4% in the second quarter of 2013, for a gain of 1.1 points. While iOS and Android battle for the title of the top selling mobile operating system, Windows is quietly stealing share.

And Windows success isn’t restricted to the U.S. The platform is picking up share overseas as well. In Europe, Windows took 6.9% of smartphone sales during the second quarter gaining 2.2 percentage points year over year. Windows is consolidating its position as the third operating system on the continent accounting for 9% and 8.6% of smartphone sales in France and Britain respectively.

Nokia  (NYSE: NOK)  has been the biggest beneficiary of this trend. The Finnish handset manufacturer is responsible for 87% of Windows handset sales globally. Although it made up only 4% of smartphone sales worldwide during the first quarter of 2013, Nokia has seen its share of sales rise from just 1% during the same period last year. Finally, Nokia’s bet on Windows appears to be paying off.

But the best day are still ahead

Fortunately for Microsoft investors, these positive results are expected to continue. According to estimates by Canalyst, Windows is expected to start closing in on the iPhone with 12.7% of smartphone sales worldwide versus the iPhone’s 14.1% by 2017. Three trends are driving this growth.

First, Windows Phones are particularly popular with first time smartphone buyers. Of those that bought a Windows handset in the past year, 52% upgraded from a feature phone. With feature phone owners still making up over half of U.S. mobile phone owners, Microsoft is well positioned to capture this market.

Second, Microsoft’s main competitor for the industry’s bronze medal is in disarray. Over the last none months BlackBerry  (NASDAQ: BBRY)  has lost eight million subscribers. The company’s BB10 launch is a flop. Last quarter the struggling Waterloo company moved only 2.7 million BB10 devices falling well short of the street’s expectations.

Für mich ist es offensichtlich, dass immer mehr große Firmen auf Windows Phone umstellen und Blackberry in den Unternehmen ablöst. Zum Einen ist die Zukunft von Blackberry ungewiss und zum Anderen bildet Microsoft ein komplettes Ökosystem ab - für Unternehmen somit alles aus einer Hand. Ich gehe stark davon aus, dass sich Blackberry kurz- bis mittelfristig kaum auf dem Markt halten können wird.

Zudem denke ich, dass Windows Phone viele Marktanteile von Apple erobern wird. Der Hype stumpft langsam ab und es fehlen wirkliche Innovationen. Apple wird zwar weiterhin ein rundes Gesamtkonzept anbieten und viele Käufer finden, aber ich kann mir nur schwerlich vorstellen, dass der Run in der Form der vergangenen Jahre anhalten wird.

Meine Prognose bleibt deshalb, dass Windows Phone schon in wenigen Jahren nach Android das meistgenutzte Smartphone-OS sein wird. Die Anzeichen verdichten sich für mich zudem immer mehr, dass dies nun auch (ENDLICH!) von Microsoft entsprechend gefördert wird. Das ist für mich auch die klare Message, die sich im Zusammenhang mit dem baldigen Ballmer-Abgang abzeichnet - das Fördern der mobilen Systeme für Tablets und Smartphones. In einem Jahr wird sicherlich niemand mehr Funktionen oder Apps vermissen.

das GDR3-Update könnte viele Schwachpunkte schon ausmerzen.  Es könnte durchaus sein, dass mit dem Update das Notification-Center kommt (hatte ich schonmal gepostet) und jetzt kommen auch erste Hinweise auf die separate Lautstärke-Einstellungen.

In Italien konnte Nokia 17% im Vergleich zum Vorjahr zulegen und in Finnland hat sie die erste Position erobert - 36% Marktanteil und 2% mehr als Samsung! Anteil von Apple IPhone sinkt von 14 auf 7%.


Nokia Outsells iPhone in Italy, Regains Crown in Finland

A report by the research firm IDC has revealed that markets in Italy and the U.K. have been very favorable to Nokia recently. In Italy, Nokia managed to become the second biggest smart phone seller in the second quarter of this year with an increase of 17% in market share compared to last year. This means that the Finnish OEM was outdone only by the popularity of Samsung, having garnered a bigger market share than even Apple. The company also more than doubled the sales of its smart phones in the U.K and sold over 396,000 units in the second quarter, which made up for around 40% of all the Lumia smart phones it sold during the period. However, despite doing so well, Nokia couldn’t manage to feature in the list of the five biggest smart phone vendors in the region in terms of market share.


The company has however, managed to regain the leadership of its home market in Finland. During the first quarter, that position was taken by Samsung. According to latest data from IDC, Nokia had a market share of 36% in the country during the second quarter, 2% more than Samsung. The rise in the market share of Nokia has been attributed to the decline of Apple in the region, as the Cupertino based manufacturer’s share went down by half from 14% to just 7% during the second quarter this year.

1. Lumia releases



Nokia released the Lumia 625 in June this year. The phone has a massive 4.7 inch display, powered by a dual-core Qualcomm (QCOM) Snapdragon processor. Without a contract, the phone will sell for $290 in Europe, Latin America, and Asia in the third quarter. The only downside of the phone is the low resolution (800×480).

At the premium end, the Lumia 1020 was launched, gaining positive reviews from critics.

2. Nokia Siemens acquired

Nokia simplified its ownership structure of Nokia Siemens by buying the portion it did not own. Costing $2.2 billion, Nokia will now be in a position to reduce costs at Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN). Nokia aims to cut operating costs by EUR 1.5 billion. This is sharply higher than the original target of nearly EUR 1 billion.

3. Nokia Windows RT tablet

Nokia is rumored to be working on an RT tablet. If the speculation is correct, the device will be announced on September 26, 2013 in New York.

Microsoft (MSFT) has seen little success so far for the Surface tablet. The company wrote down its inventory last quarter. Nokia could fare better, especially if the hardware design is improved. Nokia is already known for building good-quality products.

Ich muss sagen, ich war froh zu lesen, wie schlecht das OS bisher ist. Denn nachdem Ubuntun nicht sein Geld zusammen bekommen hat, rechne ich mit dem Firefox als Konkurrenz mehr als mit den Jolla Handies.

Schön ist auch der letzte Satz mit Bezug zu den Asha Handies:
"wird man auch potentielle Nutzer in Schwellenländern nicht begeistern  können. Zumindest nicht, wenn diese auch Zugriff auf günstige  Android-Handys oder beispielsweise Nokias Einstiegsgeräte der Asha-Serie  haben. Letztere mögen zwar keine echten Smartphones sein, aber wirklich  smart ist auch das ZTE One nicht."

 

Bis zum Release von Windows 10 sollen außerdem Windows Phone und Windows RT komplett zusammengelegt worden sein.

Das Problem für die Nokia-Aktie ist nach meiner Meinung im Moment nicht eine schlechte Strategie oder schlechte Produkte etc. , sondern der Gesamtmarkt.  Siehe hier: Zinsanstieg? http://info.kopp-verlag.de/hintergruende/...todesspirale-geraten.html

Die Nokia-Produkte sind super, Marktanteil wächst und den NSN-Kauf fand ich als richtig. Deutsche Bank war schon eh und jeh negativ, Rating Agenturen kann man ignorieren, denn die Nokia-Anleihen laufen prächtig, siehe hier: http://www.finanzen.net/anleihen/A0T6DF-Nokia-Anleihe. Anleihen Kurse lügen weniger als Rating-Agenturen und Bank-Analysten...

Aber das Problem war gestern der Absturz um 5%, Scheitern am Widerstand bei 4,30$, so dass ich kurzfristig weitere Rückgänge bis 2,80 Euro erwarte. Daher habe ich heute die Hälfte meiner Aktien verkauft. Langfristig bleibe ich optimistisch.

 

mmh, ich schätze deine Meinung sehr, aber Artikel vom kopp-verlag.de kann ich nicht ernstnehmen. da bist du wahrscheinlich bei max an der richtigen stelle.

also ich finde, es hat seine daseinsberechtigung, da nicht jeder ein touchphone habe möchte.

so ein update war doch notwendig und finde ich gut. gerade heute im e-plus laden gewesen, wo die "old school" handies nur von nokia lagen

 

würd ichs mir ja fast wünschen das Elop zu Microsoft geht xD 

 

da kann man denken was man will.

Tatsache ist, dass nach der Gelddruckerei irgendwann die Zinsen steigen, wuerde mich wundern, wenn es diesmal anders waere und das ist Gift fuer die Aktien.

Bin aber immer noch long in dieser lahmen Ente namens NOK.  Wann paddelt die endlich gegen Norden.

Es gibt ja viele kritische Stimmen zum Einstieg Nokias in den Tablet-Markt, ich schließe mich da nicht aus. Aber rein von den Verkaufsschätzungen für die kommenden Jahren, sollte man versuchen sich ein Stück vom Kuchen abzuschneiden.

Ich habe einfach den DAX-Chart und den Nokia-Chart angeschaut. Beide sehen aktuell nicht so gut aus (riecht nach Doppeltop im DAX). Daher meine Vorsicht. Nokia sehe ich wie gesagt auf einem guten Weg. Interessant wäre die relative Stärke Nokia/DAX oder Nokia/EuroStoxx- ob sich die Aktie vom allgemeinen Trend abkoppeln kann.
