LONDON: A delegation of federal and provincial ministers and officials concerned, headed by Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Malik Baloch, left for London on Sunday to hold talks with a company on the Reko-Diq copper-cum gold project.
According to sources, the delegation includes Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Khaqan Abbasi, Balochistan’s Senior Minister Sardar Sanaullah Zehri, Chief Secretary Saifullah Chattah, federal and provincial mineral departments’ secretaries, the attorney general and other officials. “The delegation will hold initial talks with the senior officials of the TTC regarding Reko-Diq project,”.
The middle man Farooq Gujjar, who is believed to be the man behind the initial agreement for the purchase of the investment project by TTC. Mr. Gujjar who holds resturation business in Paris is also engaged in the current settlement negotiations. The Govt. of Balochistan officials recieved very handy gifts from Mr. Farooq at their earlier trip to Paris, France.
The federal and Balochistan governments attended proceedings at an arbitration forum in Paris last year and submitted evidence regarding the case.
CM Balochistan earlier showed his interest to hold direct negotiations with the TTC and settle the dispute out of court. The Tethyan Copper Company, previously involved in exploring gold and copper deposits in Reko-Diq area, had decided to seek damages for what it saw as breach of contract allegedly committed by the federal and provincial governments. As per sources TTC will be asking for 400 Million dollars as the charges directly incurred by the firm in the project. Where as Dr. Malik is ambitious to sttle the amout around 200 Million dollars.
Dr. Malik earlier in Paris, while he was presenting the case at Abitrartion forum in private discussions claimed that he has succeeded to convince the Reko Diq officials to bring the settlement amout around 200 Million dollars.
