Our infrastructure helps us deliver content for a wide variety of companies who use streaming media to enhance their business. iBEAM’s network architecture resembles that of traditional broadcasting systems. Cable and broadcast television are distributed by satellite to a network of cable head-ends located in local areas. iBEAM™ uses satellites to broadcast streaming media to our “Internet head-ends” located in Internet Access Providers’ networks. The iBEAM Network™ combines the fidelity, scalability, and efficiency of traditional broadcast with the interactive power of the Internet. Features The iBEAM Network consists of three main components: Edge Network: Our MaxCaster™ servers in Access Providers’ networks around the world serve content as close to the end user as possible. Placing our servers at the “edge” of the Internet lets us bypass many of the problems that occur when content is served far from the end user. Broadcast Platform: iBEAM’s proprietary Broadcast Platform coordinates our extensive network of servers. iBEAM can determine the best place to serve content to the end user, provide real-time reporting on streaming broadcasts, and maintain and monitor our Edge Network. Satellite: We communicate with our MaxCaster™ servers by satellite. This lets us transmit information from a single source to multiple recipients simultaneously and more economically. Benefits The unique design of the iBEAM Network offers the following benefits: High-Fidelity Streams: The iBEAM Network delivers broadcast-quality video and CD-quality audio streams directly to the end user. Our network eliminates the problems that occur when data is lost as it travels across the Internet. Reliability: iBEAM ensures that users can connect to any stream we broadcast, and we make sure the transmission is not dropped during the middle of a program Massive Scale: The iBEAM Network can serve more than 300,000 simultaneous streams, and we will serve millions of streams in the future. This ensures access to the largest events and prime-time caliber webcasts.

689 Postings, 8839 Tage eyronok fluffy hier meine Stellungsnahme

iBEAM Broadcasting Teams With Excite@Home to Improve Broadband
Experience; Excite@Home Will Provide iBEAM Direct Access Onto Its
                            Broadband Network

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 2000--iBEAM Broadcasting(R)
Corporation (Nasdaq:IBEM), an Internet Broadcast Network provider, and Excite@Home
(Nasdaq:ATHM), the leader in broadband, today announced that iBEAM will deploy its streaming
media serving equipment throughout Excite@Home's network to enhance the broadband content
experience. In addition to the deployment agreement, Excite@Home has made an equity
investment in iBEAM.

iBEAM will co-locate MaxCaster(TM) media serving systems, to distribute uninterrupted live and
on-demand streams directly into Excite@Home's 15,000-mile broadband network. iBEAM's
specialized broadcast infrastructure uses a combination of satellite and dedicated fiber to bypass
packet loss and bottlenecks that often plague the general Internet to provide high fidelity streaming
to Internet users.

"Partnering with Excite@Home brings us one very large step closer to building out our Internet
broadcast network," said Peter B. Desnoes, iBEAM president and CEO. "This agreement allows
us to place our high-fidelity streaming content on the largest broadband network in the country,
which helps us to reach the largest broadband customer base on the Internet with a high quality
product."

iBEAM's Internet broadcast network is optimized for delivery of live and on-demand streaming and
rich media content. The iBEAM(R) Network is designed to deliver video and audio streams via a
hybrid fiber and satellite platform to Access Providers, bringing content closer to end-users, thus
facilitating better performance. This network blends the beneficial aspects of traditional television
broadcast infrastructure, such as a dedicated fiber-optic acquisition network and satellite
broadcast, with the interactive capabilities of the Internet.

"iBEAM and Excite@Home are natural partners," said Mark O'Leary, executive vice president for
Excite@Home Business Solutions (EBS), the commercial division of Excite@Home. "Both
companies are intent on optimizing the Web experience by focusing on speedy, broadband services
and delivering the best broadband content experience to consumers."
