390 Postings, 6728 Tage Silver_SurferGlobalmatrech: Nucap/EKOR Einsatz in Tschernobyl

...

(2) NuCap™ was created to specifically address the problems resulting from the nuclear accident of Reactor 4 at Chernobyl , Ukraine in 1986. NuCap™ was first applied at Chernobyl in the application for which it was created. At the same time, NuCap™ was transferred to the USA for production and commercialization on the USA market and in use in a variety of nuclear and hazardous waste remediation projects.

390 Postings, 6728 Tage Silver_SurferFirst Commercial Order for NuCap(TM)

Global Matrechs Inc. Announces Receipt of First Commercial Order for NuCap(TM)
RIDGEFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 28, 2006--Global Matrechs, Inc. http://www.globalmatrechs.com (OTCBB: GMTH) reports that it has received the first commercial order for NuCap(TM). The order was placed by Battelle-Pacific Northwest Laboratory in Richland, WA located at the Hanford Nuclear Waste Site. NuCap(TM) will be used to cover the walls of a "pit" in which there has been a radiation spill. Battelle was looking for a product that could adhere to concrete and to coat a radioactive residue spill along with providing life time isolation. This means Battelle wants to encapsulate this spill only one time.

Michael Sheppard, President of Global Matrechs, Inc. said, "Even though we have shipped NuCap(TM) to Hanford in the past, this is an order for a specific purpose and it is very satisfying to see the product starting to get the type of interest we expected in the past." Sheppard also stated "We are extremely pleased to have received our first commercial order from product that has been manufactured by Dow Corning, which demonstrates NuCap's applicability to cover radiation spills. This order generates the first revenue from NuCap(TM). We hope this will serve as a starting point and lead to additional orders for such purposes in this market."

Battelle was looking for a sure one-time encapsulation material and having known about NuCap(TM) wanted to use it. We shipped this order in March.

MORE ABOUT NuCap(TM)

NuCap(TM) is a silicon-based geocomposite which is highly radiation-resistant (unaffected by Alpha-radiation; gamma- and beta-radiation up to an absorbed dose of up to 10 gigarads), and can be provided in a variety of forms (fixative, foam, sealer or grout) to encapsulate and contain radioactive contamination. Additional NuCap(TM) characteristics include fire resistance (can withstand mechanical and Hot-cut transient temperature spikes up to 1,100 degrees F); corrosion resistant (to strong Alkali and acid solutions); easily applied to horizontal, vertical, or overhead surfaces, and can polymerize underwater; can form a smooth and wear-resistant surface for ease of decontamination; mixes with waste, which has up to 50% water by weight; adheres to unclean, wet or corroded surfaces and hot metal surfaces up to 120 degrees F) effective up to a 1:6 NuCap(TM)-to-radioactive-waste matrix; penetrates openings as small as 1.0 mm; uses conventional equipment in an easy application; is non-toxic and inert environmentally; and does not generate hazardous waste by itself.

"-- Global Matrechs is in negotiations with a German company for non-exclusive marketing and distribution rights for NuCap(TM) to eastern European governments, with a particular focus on the Ukraine and the Chernobyl site."

In July, Global Matrechs (OTCBB: GMTH) announced that its licensed technologies division, with the assistance of its manufacturing partner, had completed on schedule the first full commercial-scale production batch of NuCap(TM) paste for non-slump applications and had completed arrangements to ship it to the Hanford Nuclear Waste Facility in Richland, Washington. In April, Global Matrechs (OTCBB: GMTH) distributed a shareholder update, communicating the Company’s current focus on two of their emerging technology products, HNIPU and EKOR™.  The Company expressed their expects to complete, an agreement for manufacturing, marketing and sale of products based on their licensed EKOR™ product and in connection with this agreement, will be changing the name of EKOR™ to NuCap™ effective immediately. As their European partner EFM moves closer to finalizing their distribution path, Global Matrechs hopes to see some activity from sales of HNIPU in  Europe   this year. The Company has also filed for approval with the EPA which they anticipate to receive within the next couple of months so that HNIPU can also be marketed and sold in the   United States

A former plutonium
production complex with nine nuclear reactors and associated processing facili-
ties, the Hanford Site played a pivotal role in the production of materials for
the nation’s defense for more than 40 years, beginning in the 1940s with the
Manhattan Project. Today, under the direction of the DOE, Hanford contrac-
tors are engaged in one of the world’s largest environmental cleanup projects.Hanford was the fi rst plutonium production site in the world. In
recent years, efforts at the site have focused on developing new waste treatment
and disposal technologies and characterizing and cleaning up contamination
left from historical operations. Physical challenges at the Hanford Site include
millions of gallons of highly radioactive liquid waste in 177 underground
storage tanks, 2,300 tons of spent nuclear fuel, 20 tons of plutonium-bearing
materials, about 25 million cubic feet of buried or stored solid waste, billions
of gallons of groundwater spread over about 73 square miles, contaminated
with chemicals and radionuclides above drinking water standards, more than
1,700 former waste disposal sites, and about 500 contaminated facilities.

Eine der Aufgaben jetzt:Ending the tank waste program by 2033 by accelerating waste retrieval, increasing the capacity of the Waste Treatment Plant (under construction),
and starting the process of closing underground waste storage tanks.

mal ehrlich.

Global Matrechs, Inc. Prepares to Submit EKOR, to "New Safe Confinement" Tender for Chernoblyl

RIDGEFIELD, Conn., Sept. 14, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Global Matrechs, Inc. (OTCBB:GMTH) is preparing to submit EKOR, a silicon-based geocomposite radiation resistant coating/foam in response to a request for tenders by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), who plan to let contracts next year for the construction of a so-called New Safe Confinement, to protect the environment from the radioactive wreckage at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant for the next hundred years.

The shelter plan is financed through the EBRD-managed "Chernobyl Shelter Fund." Twenty-eight donor governments have until now pledged more than 700 million Euros to the fund, and a G7-led initiative is underway to raise additional funds required to complete the program.

In 2000, EKOR was successfully demonstrated to contain radiation from Chernobyl's Unit Four. Robots were used to apply the polymer foam over the fuel containing mass under the reactor. Applications were also made to the radioactive-dust-covered surface areas in the main pumping room, inside the sarcophagus that has been built around the Unit. These surface applications were designed to fix the radioactive dust in place, preventing its dispersion and enabling decontamination of the surfaces.

Numerous substances have been used in attempts to contain radiation from the fuel masses and surrounding radioactive dust at Chernobyl, but most have disintegrated within three or four months from the effects of the radiation. EKOR was successfully applied at Chernobyl in March 2000 and reportedly remains stable and holding.

EKOR was certified by the Ukrainian government following the initial application of the composite proved EKOR was radiation resistant, did not degrade following long term exposure to the radiation, and is capable of withstanding harsh physical, chemical and biological assaults on its structural integrity.

Global Matrechs, Inc. is currently in discussions with a major partner to submit EKOR on their behalf to be included in a comprehensive tender.

Company Press Release
Kurchatov Research Holdings, Ltd. Announces First Revenue Generating Project Using EKOR Expected At Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor

August 31, 4:08 pm Eastern Time
http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/990831/dc_kurchat_1.html

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 1999--Kurchatov Research Holdings, Ltd.(OTCBB: KRHL - news) is pleased to announce that the first revenue generating project using EKOR is expected to commence at Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor No. 4 in the immediate future.

Based upon an agreement between Kurchatov Research Holdings, Ltd. and Eurotech, Ltd.(OTC: EURO - news) the two companies have an equal interest of 50% (percent) of the net profits generated by Eurotech, Ltd. from the sale or licensing of EKOR. As a result, Kurchatov Research Holdings, Ltd. will financially benefit from every contract negotiated and signed by Eurotech, Ltd. in accordance to the previously announced net-profit sharing agreements between KRH and Eurotech.

Kurchatov Research Holdings, Ltd. and Eurotech expect that the first revenue-generating project to employ the EKOR compound will be a site-wide application at the Chernobyl nuclear reactor. The future application of EKOR at Chernobyl would occur some time after a successful application demonstration of EKOR requested by the Chernobyl authorities to suppress nuclear dust and isolate fuel-containing masses under the various conditions present at the reactor.

In 1997, the G-7 nations approved the Shelter Implementation Plan (SIP) to increase the safety and stability of the shelter by 2005 using international funds. So far, $760 million has been allocated since SIP began in 1998. The total clean-up cost to suppress dust at Chernobyl is estimated at over $3.1 billion by the Ukraine Ministry.

EKOR is a patented silicon geopolymer developed by scientists at the Kurchatov Research Institute in Moscow specifically for use at Chernobyl. Application of an EKOR foam layer will prevent radioactive dust from leaving the area surrounding Chernobyl because it forms a permanent barrier between the soil and the air thus trapping the contamination. The EKOR barrier will not permit water penetration and will remain in place for centuries without degrading. For nuclear fuel encapsulation, EKOR is effective for extended periods of time because it does not degrade under radiation as most material such as glass. An EKOR coating will eliminate the threat of radioactive materials leaking to the air, soil, surface or ground water from these dangerous fuel-containing masses.

Furthermore, per Eurotech's press release dated August 30, 1999, Eurotech is ``in the final negotiation stages for agreements to use radiation-resistant EKOR technology for nuclear waste encapsulation in the United States and Europe. More details are expected when negotiations are complete. Best estimates of the results of these negotiations are that the EKOR contracts could generate significant revenues - in the tens of millions of dollars.''

Kurchatov Research Holdings, Ltd. is a diversified technology holding company organized to identify, assess, acquire and commercialize technologies developed by scientists, engineers and research institutes worldwide.

This release may include ``forward looking statements'' within the meaning of various provisions of federal and state securities laws and judicial interpretation of such laws. Any statements that express, or involve discussions as to, expectations, beliefs, plans, objectives, assumptions or future events or performance are not historical facts and may be forward-looking and, accordingly, such statements involve estimates, assumptions and uncertainties which could cause actual results to differ materially from those expressed in the forward-looking statements. Whether actual results will conform to KRH's expectations and predictions is subject to the risks and uncertainties described above that may cause actual results to differ materially. Any forward-looking statement speaks only as of the date on which such statement is made, and KRH undertakes no obligation to update any forward-looking statement or statements to reflect events or circumstances after the date on which such statement is made or to reflect the occurrence of unanticipated events.

Also bin auf GMTH wegen EKOR/Nucap eingestiegen.

4308 Postings, 8486 Tage Nukem200 Jahre haltbar, lt. Greenpeace-Artikel

EKOR bzw. NUCAP ist bei den Experten nicht neu! Hier eine News von 1999 aus Deutschland. Damals wurde EKOR noch von Eurotech vermarktet. Im Jahr 2003 hat GMTH Lizenzen für EKOR, HNIPU, EMR/AC, Rad-X, Firesil, LEM und RBHM von Eurotech übernommen.

Germany  Selects EKOR in $1.5 Million Project Seeking Long-term Solution for Nuclear Waste
October 25, 1999 - WASHINGTON, DC. EUROTECH Ltd. (OTC: BB:EURO) announced today that the Federal Republic of Germany funded its two leading Nuclear Research Centers of Karlsruhe and Jülich to validate methods required for intermediate and long range nuclear waste storage and disposal using EUROTECH's radiation-resistant EKOR. This effort is in cooperation with EUROTECH, Ltd., the company that has exclusive worldwide rights to commercialize EKOR outside of Russia.

Einen Artikel zu Ekor gab es auch schon: EKOR-A material for the 21st Century”. New Technologies for the 21st Century. No 2, 1999.
