LONDON (Alliance News) - Stellar Diamonds PLC Monday said it has made further progress in bringing its Baoulé Kimberlite diamond project in Guinea into production, and is on track for commissioning in early September.

The West-Africa focused diamond development company is utilising its existing in-country mining plant and equipment with the objective of fast-tracking Baoulé to trial mining to generate early cash-flow and determine the commercial diamond grade and value for the project.

"Stellar has made tremendous progress over the past few weeks towards our objective of bringing the Baoulé kimberlite pipe into trial mining and generating early cash flow in the fourth quarter," said Chief Executive Karl Smithson in a statement.

The company said the relocation of its owner-operated processing plants to Baoulé was completed ahead of schedule.

"Once the plant is operating efficiently, trial mining production will commence, and the diamond grade and value will be determined," it said.

Stellar Diamonds said its projects in Guinea and Sierra Leone have been unaffected by the Ebola virus and operations are continuing as normal. It said it has instigated a number of precautionary initiatives to mitigate the risks of the virus occurring at its Tongo and Baoulé project sites

Shares in Stellar Diamonds were trading 1.5% lower at 1.50 pence before midday Monday.

Digging deeper for diamonds in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is named for its hills but known worldwide for its diamonds.

From iron ore to gemstones, mining is major part of the economy - making up around 20%.

And to find more diamonds miners are having to dig deeper and use more sophisticated techniques.

But is the country too dependent on extractive industries? Tomi Oladipo travelled to Tongo Fields in the east of the country to find out.

631 Postings, 4365 Tage new1aroundhereExcellent bulk Sample Grade from Tongo Project

Highlights:

·      1,182 carats recovered from kimberlite ore at an average grade of 178.7cpht

·      Sample grade is 49% higher than the 120cpht applied in current resource estimate

·      53 diamonds larger than 1 carat, including stones of 6.7 and 4.6 carats

·      Diamonds of excellent shape, colour and clarity with valuation now underway

·      Results expected to increase diamond resource (currently 1.1 million carats)

Valuation of the diamond parcel will be undertaken in Antwerp, Belgium. Once the results are received an updated diamond value model will be prepared in September 2014 to generate the expected run of mine diamond value. We will then commission a revised independent resource statement for early October 2014, which we anticipate will show an increase from the current resource estimate of 1.1 million carats.
