Girindus produziert antiviralen Oligonukleotid-Wirkstoff für kanadische Replicor
11.11.2004: Der Verfahrensentwickler und Wirkstoffproduzent Girindus AG produziert den antiviralen Wirkstoff REP 9 für das kanadische Biotech-Unternehmen Replicor Inc., teilt das Unternehmen mit. Die cGMP Produktion von REP 9 erfolgt in der großtechnischen Oligonukleotid-Anlage in Cincinnati/Ohio.

Bei REP 9 handelt es sich um einen neuartigen Wirkstoff mit einem breiten Anwendungsspektrum gegen eine Vielzahl von Viren, wie etwa HIV, Hepatitis B, Herpes und Ebola. REP 9 weist eine ausgeprägte Wirkung gegen zahlreiche medikamentenresistente Stämme auf und könnte somit die bisher begrenzten und unzureichenden Behandlungsmöglichkeiten bei lebensbedrohlichen Virusinfektionen deutlich verbessern. Darüber hinaus hat REP 9 das Potential, signifikante Verbesserungen bei der Therapie bestimmter Atemwegsinfektionen zu leisten, die bei Kleinkindern und älteren Patienten lebensbedrohlich verlaufen können. Aufgrund der breitgefächerten Wirksamkeit bei heute nur begrenzt therapierbaren Infektionen wird REP 9 nach der Kommerzialisierung in einen Milliardenmarkt vorstoßen.

With this Ebola Virus outbreak news there is one biotech company that has already risen a lot on these cases, and that biotech is known as Tekmira Pharmaceuticals (TKMR). Another biotech that may potentially rise in share price based off of these new Ebola cases is Sarepta Therapeutics (SRPT). Both of these biotechnology companies are utilizing some type of oligonulceotide technology. Oligonucleotides are short single stranded nucleic acid molecules that can be placed together with other types of technology to create new molecules to combat against these types of diseases, even the Ebola Virus.

Die Ebola-Epidemie griff zuletzt auf immer mehr Länder über, sodass weitere Opfer zu beklagen waren. Inzwischen sind mehr als 3.500 Menschen an Ebola gestorben, mehr als 7.500 Patienten sind an dem Virus erkrankt. Mit einer Krankenschwester aus Spanien hat sich zuletzt erstmals ein Mensch in Europa angesteckt. Es ist ein Wettlauf gegen die Zeit. Noch gibt es kein zugelassenes Medikament. Es gibt aber erste Hoffnungsträger.

Extremes Risiko – enorme Chancen
Alle vorgestellten Ebola-Aktien außer Fujifilm sind hochriskant und eignen sich daher nur für hartgesottene Anleger. Andererseits winken den Firmen bei Extremereignissen (Pandemie und/oder biologischer Terrorangriff) beschleunigte Zulassungsverfahren.

Auch die WHO erlaubt die Anwendung neuer Behandlungsmethoden. Liberia und die USA hatten sich zuvor über die Lieferung von ZMapp geeinigt.

Ein Experten-Komitee der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) hält den Einsatz von experimentellen Wirkstoffen im Kampf gegen die Ebola-Epidemie in Westafrika für vertretbar. "Angesichts der besonderen Umstände dieses Ausbruchs, und vorausgesetzt, dass bestimmte Bedingungen erfüllt werden", seien derartige Behandlungen ethisch vertretbar, hieß es am Dienstag in Genf.

Dies sei auch der Fall, wenn ihre Wirksamkeit noch nicht bewiesen und mögliche Nebenwirkungen noch nicht bekannt seien. In Genf hatte zuvor ein international besetztes Ethikkomitee zu der Frage getagt. Einer Anwendung solcher Mittel müsse aber vom jeweiligen Patienten erlaubt werden. Die Empfehlung der WHO bedeutet noch nicht, dass Regierungen, in deren Zuständigkeitsbereich die Genehmigung der Verwendung oder die Arzneimittelzulassung fällt, dies auch gestatten müssen.

Jetzt, wo Ebola sowohl in die USA als auch nach Europa geschwappt ist, werden die Anstrengungen sicherlich nochmals intensiviert, um endlich ein wirksames Mittel gegen die Seuche zu finden!

Gibt es Meinungen? Klingt doch vom Chance-Risiko-Verhältnis nicht sooo schlecht, oder? Marketcap. 0,5Mio.€ bei Patentinhaber Girindus, mit der Solvay Gruppe einen finanzstarken Partner (Jahresumsatz 10Mrd.€) im Rücken.
