: Rakuten Securities steps to expand in APAC
FINTECH INNOVATOR EXPANDS INTO APAC: RAKUTEN SECURITIES DECEMBER 6, 2017
Rakuten Card, Rakuten Bank, Rakuten Pay, Rakuten Life Insurance – Rakuten’s agile, innovative fintech companies have already cemented their positions as major players in the domestic financial landscape. Now they’re beginning to make inroads outside Japan. Since 2015, Rakuten Securities has taken major steps to expand in APAC, offering low-cost, user-friendly services to customers across the region.
The company’s first move abroad began with Hong Kong. In September 2015, Rakuten Securities acquired Hong Kong forex innovator FXCM Asia (now Rakuten Securities HK), combining the expertise of one of Asia’s leading forex brokers with Rakuten Securities’ more than 15 years of online trading experience.
The following year it was Australia’s turn: In August 2016, Rakuten Securities expanded its global forex coverage even further across the region with the acquisition of Australia-based “FXAsia Pty Ltd” (now Rakuten Securities Australia). Just two months later, Rakuten Securities received approval to form a joint venture with Malaysia’s Kenanga Investment Bank, launching the country’s first-ever completely online equities brokerage platform Rakuten Trade in May 2017.
Gibt es irgendwo eine Übersicht über die ganzen Unternehmensbeteiligungen und Übernahmen in den letzten Jahren? Mittlerweile hat sich Rakuzen ja ein ordentliches Portfolio aufgebaut.
"WE'RE PAVING THE ROAD" - VIBER ON USER ENGAGEMENT, A FEELING OF COMMUNITY, AND ADS Tyrone Stewart
Messaging apps are big business and many of them have moved into providing far more services for users beyond traditional peer-to-peer messaging, such as chatbots and banking services. This move from messaging apps into becoming the Swiss army knives of the app market has seen the number of app users grow to around 2.01bn and is expected to reach 2.48bn by 2021, according to Statista.
One app that reaches a large number of those using messaging apps globally is Viber. The cross-platform, community-focused instant messaging platform boasts over 1bn users and is the most used messaging app in Russia, as well as being hugely popular in the Middle East.

"Dw, it's encrypted
Of course, when dealing with personalised advertising the questions surrounding personal data always surface. In Viber’s case, it has no need to worry about data issues – because messages are end-to-end encrypted, and no data is stored or sold to third parties.
With end-to-end encryption and lack of storage of data or messages, Viber targets users with advertising based more so on their behaviours than any solid data points."
Tokyo-based startup Folio aims to simplify the process and make investing more accessible. Users can either choose to invest based on themes, which range from big themes like “empowering women” to very specific fields like “drones” or the “2020 Tokyo Olympics,” or leave all the decisions up to the service’s robo-adviser technology. Both options leverage AI to make investments that are diversified across a range of stocks.
Everything is presented in an informative and easy-to-use interface. The company’s vision is to allow users to become more financially literate while enjoying the act of investing, rather than just providing an investment-automation service.

: Bis auf die Aussage über das Wachstum im Ausland
im Artikel stimme ich dem Autor zu:
Rakuten Ichiba, formed by Hiroshi Mikitani, is the largest ecommerce site in Japan and one of the largest in the world. Rakuten these days is much more than an ecommerce platform. It has a footprint in media, video-on-demand, mobile messaging, ereading, travel, fashion, marketing and even sport (Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, one of the top performing teams of Nippon Professional Baseball's Pacific League is based in Sendai, where I used to live).
What you may not know about Rakuten, however, is that is the firm operates the largest internet bank in Japan. It issues credit cards to tens of millions of members and offers financial products and services that range from personal accounts and mortgages to securities brokerage and insurance.
Rakuten also has an electronic currency, Edy, which is embedded in its customer reward point system. The idea is simple - the more you buy, the more points you receive that can be used to make purchases online and with participating , retailers.https://www.salesforce.com/uk/blog/2018/01/...financial-services.html

: Such anonymity isn't so easy achieve on Facebook
Viber offers one key benefit over Facebook by limiting the information that’s shown to other users — in addition to hiding phone numbers, it only reveals the profile photo and name, both of which the user can change at their discretion. Such anonymity isn’t so easy to achieve on Facebook.

von 2018 noch hinzu:
Kobo is a global leader in eBooks and audiobooks with nearly six million titles from thousands of publishers – everything from children’s books to New York Times best sellers and indie titles. As the exclusive mass retail partner of the Kobo brand in the U.S., that full assortment of eBooks will be available on Walmart.com later this year, with audiobooks launching after that. The eBook and audiobook offering will be fully integrated into the Walmart online shopping experience, and customers will be able to buy these versions as well as the physical book while shopping for their favorite titles. For example, anyone shopping for the latest best seller will be able to purchase the physical book shipped to home or to their local store, an eBook and/or an audiobook. All eBook content will be accessible through a Walmart/Kobo co-branded app on all iOS and Android devices, a desktop app and Kobo eReaders (which we’ll offer online and in stores later this year). We will also use our stores to make it easier for our more than 140 million weekly customers to get their hands on eBook and audiobook titles, including, but not limited to, offering eBook cards in stores.
