Earlier this month the we went down to the Nikola factory (Coolidge, Ariz.) to explore the latest Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) semi-truck (class 8). We got a test drive in the Hydrogen semi-truck and I was blown away with the performance. Hydrogen technology is advancing, and I’m convinced it will be part of planet’s future path to decarbonization, along with other maturing technologies (notably SAF, EV, etc.). Smoother, quieter, and more powerful than any driver needs, with a range of 500 miles and no tailpipe emissions.
More importantly than performance, Nikola claims that one Hydrogen FCEV can save 106 metric tons of CO2 per year, a typical legacy diesel semi-truck creates enough CO2 to fill 852 shipping containers by volume, and that it takes 4,900 mature trees to absorb the CO2 from one legacy diesel truck.
It’s a great time to witness these more environmental friendly technologies evolve into something practical, with real world applications now.
Thank you for the support, Ron! I am so glad you got to take a test ride and truly experience the truck. We were delighted to give a tour and host the Boeing team. Happy to continue to be a resource as you all continue your decarbonization journey!
