ACHTUNG! ACHTUNG!
Spot uranium oxide prices have suddenly come under considerable pressure. Author: Barry Sergeant Posted: Tuesday , 29 Jan 2008
JOHANNESBURG -
Spot uranium prices came under substantial pressure on Tuesday, as reported by Tullet Prebon, an inter-dealer broker that operates across 18 countries. At the same time, widely followed uranium specialists Ux Consulting published a weaker spot uranium price of $78/lb, down by $8 from last week.
According to trade reports, physical offers have been put up for February and March 2008 in all three holding areas - the US, Europe and Canada - with prices below $80/lb in two of the areas. According to market players, one of the sellers has entered the market with "hundreds of tons" of material (each 100 tons equates to more than 220,000 pounds of uranium oxide)....

Uranium production to be stepped up: Kakodkar
R. Vimal Kumar
Tuticorin: Uranium production in the country would be augmented to match the growing fuel demands of nuclear power reactors, according to Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission. Speaking to The Hindu during a visit here on Tuesday, he said a uranium mine and processing mill would be commissioned at Tummalapalli in Andhra Pradesh shortly. Projects would be taken up in Meghalaya and Karnataka as part of the exploration programme to remove the present mismatch in demand and supply of fuel. Power generation
The installed capacity of power would go up to 7,280 MWe once the three pressurised heavy water reactors, two light water reactors and a 500 MWe prototype fast breeder reactor at Kalpakkam were commissioned.
“The construction of the proposed 300 MWe plant, which will use thorium as fuel, will commence during the 11th Five Year plan period,” Mr. Kakodkar said.
At the end of the 10th plan, the inventory of heavy mineral resources, comprising ilmenite, monazite, zircon and garnet, stood at 867 million tonnes. On the zirconium complex being set up on an outlay of about Rs. 300 crore at Pazhayakayal in the district, he said the plant would be commissioned next year. It would have the capacity to produce 500 tonnes of zirconium dioxide and 250 tonnes of zirconium sponge, required for making fuel tubes in nuclear reactors. ---- von dem wohl besten analysten des uranium marktes:
"I can quickly cover the intermediate term Index by just saying that what was said last week (on almost any day) still holds today. The rating remains BEARISH.
As for the short term, it almost looked like it wanted to turn bullish but on Friday it touched the short term moving average line and turned back to the down side. That continued today although not with any degree of vigor. The momentum indicator is still deep inside its negative zone and toying with the oversold line, although it is sitting just on top of the oversold line. I must maintain my BEARISH rating for another day. Let’s see what tomorrow will bring.
There is nothing yet in the charts or indicators to think of getting back into the market on the buy side. This is a gamblers market or a market for options traders." -----
