5805 Postings, 4887 Tage thairatInterviewing IC Potash President

I"m look forward to interviewing IC Potash President and CEO, Sidney Himmel in the coming week. When discussing the future of potash pricing over the weekend, Sid commented: "It is not possible to reasonably project ranges for short- and medium-term future potash prices due to the to the July departure of Uralkali from the BPC marketing sales organization. The political machinations that followed that departure include aggressive predictions of price declines down to $300 per tonne by Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgartner — and by his subsequent arrest by Belarusian authorities. Forecasted prices were already subject to downward revisions, due to soft contracting by China, India and Brazil, the world"s most significant buyers of internationally traded potash. At the moment, industry consultants believe that the potassium chloride market will become increasingly competitive. Granular Brazilian spot prices have been seen in the area of $350 cfr. And the same pricing has been seen in Asia. Once the large Chinese contracts are settled, I believe that the pricing of potash is going to be affected primarily by demand factors, and secondarily by supply factors. I believe that moving forward, supply factors will be secondary because it is already clear that with regards to MOP, most expansion will come from large potash company brownfield expansions such as Vanscoy and Picadilly. There will be very limited greenfield expansions, and as this becomes obvious to all market observers and buyers and sellers of potash, prices will firm up. With greenfield capital costs of $1600 per tonne, new projects can only advance with MOP netbacks in the $500 per tonne range. Given that prices approaching $500 net to China, India or Brazil generates demand resistance, but that prices in the $400 range have been shown not to necessarily cause demand destruction, I suggest that the long-term price per tonne FOB Vancouver Standard potash will average $400." - See more at: http://investorintel.com/rare-earth-intel/...ls/#sthash.z8YG8gQe.dpuf

BPC: Potash market is getting back to normal

22.10.2013 18:45

MINSK, 22 October (BelTA) - Belarusian Potash Company (BPC) registers gradual improvements on the potash market, reads a press release from the BPC press center, BelTA learned.

“The company remains committed to its sales strategy, acting in the interests of the producer and clients and registers gradual improvements on potash market and expects the complete recovery by the end of 2013 or the beginning of 2014,” reads the press release.

The renewed BPC Singapore office will develop its relations with fertilizers buyers, customers and consumers in Southeast Asia including Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and other countries who are Belarus’ strategic partners. “One of the main priorities for Belarusian Potash Company is the business activity in South Asia region, the Singapore office being in the center of it. On 30 July 2013 immediately after Vladislav Baumgertner’s statement concerning Uralkali’s breakup from its official trader, all the commercial staff of the BPC office was dismissed,” says the press release

“Nevertheless, today the BPC office in Singapore is functioning in a regular way, staff reforming is drawing to a close and business activity is gathering pace. During the transition period the company managed to retain its principal partners and even more – to establish promising relationships,” says the company.

India is a source of worry for Mosaic too. The country has an enormous population, but this doesn't translate to great nutrient sales. The fall of the rupee made import nutrients very expensive for Indian farmers. In addition to that, Mosaic has company-specific problems there. The company states that it has only limited infrastructure in India, with just 300 employees.
More importantly, the company waits for the government to act in favor of the farmers. Mosaic states that the next election will take place next year, and it expects that the government will address farmers' problems some time after that.[

* Says the start of potash mines to make IPO possible

* Says 2013 EBITDA to decline due to weaker demand

By Victoria Andreeva

MOSCOW, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Russia's EuroChem, one of the world's top 10 mineral fertiliser producers, will push ahead with plans to develop potash mines in Russia but might shelve other projects if it needs to reduce debt, its chief financial officer Andrey Ilyin said.

EuroChem, controlled by businessman Andrey Melnichenko, is investing heavily in development projects in a bid to become a global player despite fertiliser markets being weak and fears of a future global glut of the soil nutrient potash.

"We have several hundred projects, which together amount to an investment programme of about $1 billion per year," Ilyin told Reuters. This could be cut to between $150 million and $200 million in case cash flow reaches critical level, he added.

EuroChem, whose total debt is now $3.5 billion, has a $4.5-billion investment programme for the next five years. It raised $1.3 billion to refinance debt in August and has a net debt/EBITDA ratio at between 2.0 and 2.5 now, according to Ilyin.

He declined to say which projects could be put on hold. EuroChem plans to make a final decision on its $1.5 billion project to build an ammonia and urea plant in the United States next year.

The company is sticking to plans to start production at two potash mines in Russia around 2017, he said. The mines are together expected to reach full output capacity of 8.3 million tonnes of potash by 2022.

Putin, Lukashenko may discuss Uralkali on Thursday - Kremlin aide
16:50 October 23, 2013 Interfax

Presidents Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko will have a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council summit. The Uralkali situation, including the arrest of Uralkali General Director Vladislav Baumgertner, may be an item on the agenda, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said.

"Law enforcement authorities of the two countries are maintaining close contacts [with regard to Uralkali]. It is not ruled out that the issue will be discussed at the meeting and, as I have mentioned, that would be a substantive bilateral conversation," Ushakov told a press briefing.

Baumgertner was detained in Minsk in late August. The Belarusian Investigative Committee accused him of the abuse of office (Part 3, Article 424 of the Belarusian Criminal Code) punishable with up to ten years in prison. Baumgertner was moved from the State Security Committee's detention facility to a Minsk apartment and placed under house arrest on September 25.

Belarus said that illegal operations of Baumgertner and some other top managers of the Belarusian Potash Company inflicted damage of $1.5-2 billion on Belarus. Lukashenko said they could transfer Baumgertner to Russia after the damage done to Belarus was repaid.
