ERA’s Denman Island Land Conservation Project Recognized with Premier’s Award for Innovation
June 7, 2011, Vancouver, British Columbia: ERA Carbon Offsets Ltd. (TSX-V: ESR) through its 100% owned subsidiary ERA Ecosystem Restoration Associates Inc.(ERA), is pleased to announce that the Denman Island Land Conservation Project, which produces carbon offsets for the voluntary carbon market, has been recognized with the Premier’s Award for Innovation and Excellence.
The annual Premier’s Awards honour the best in British Columbia’s Public Service, recognizing the work of B.C.’s public service employees and teams who make positive contributions to this province. This year, 26 finalists were short-listed in a variety of sectors and 8 winners across the various service areas were chosen. British Columbia Premier Christy Clark handed out the awards at the 7th Annual Premier’s Awards ceremony in Victoria.
ERA’s Denman Island Conservation Project was recognized as an Innovation for the Ministry of Environment(MOE). For the first time in the history of the province, the MOE accommodated and used carbon offsets as a means to raise the capital needed to ensure this valuable piece of land was secured, placed under conservation, and transferred to the BC provincial park system, allowing for the creation of the largest provincial park on Denman Island.
Dr. Robert Falls, ERA’s Chairman, commented: “It was a great pleasure to accept this award with the visionaries from all the participating organizations that worked to make this project happen. The Ministry of Environment and BC Parks deserve special recognition for embracing such innovation and working through a very complicated process. North Denman Lands deserves kudos for their dedication and perseverance as a key participant, as does the Islands Trust Board for their support. Finally, we thank the Forest Carbon Group AG for supporting the project in the marketplace by purchasing the offsets created from Denman Island. This was a team effort and is further proof that BC is indeed an innovative leader within the green economy.”

The Nature Conservancy of Canada Announces Large North American Forest Carbon Project with ERA, 3GreenTree, Forest Carbon Group and the Pacific Carbon Trust
June 9, 2011, Vancouver, British Columbia: ERA Carbon Offsets Ltd. (TSX-V: ESR) through its 100% owned subsidiary ERA Ecosystem Restoration Associates Inc.(ERA), and 3 GreenTree Ecosystem Services Ltd.(3GreenTree) are pleased to announce the completion and launch of the Darkwoods Carbon Project, the largest forest carbon project validated and verified to date within North America.
The Darkwoods project is the first carbon project undertaken by the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), Canada’s leading private land conservation organization. Darkwoods is a 55,000 hectare (136,000 acre) property in south-eastern British Columbia.
NCC worked closely with 3GreenTree and ERA to design and develop the Darkwoods Carbon Project under the internationally recognized Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). The project uses the new VCS Improved Forest Management Methodology developed by 3GreenTree and ERA (VM0012) and recently approved under the VCS Double Approval Process by international 3rd party auditors Det Norske Veritas and Rainforest Alliance. The Darkwoods Carbon Project plans and documentation were then validated by Rainforest Alliance and verified by SCS Scientific Certification Systems, two of the world’s leading carbon auditing companies. The initial carbon credits have been issued to NCC on the Markit Environmental Registry.
ERA purchased 250,000 carbon offsets from the initial vintages which were in turn directed to the European market through their associates, the Forest Carbon Group AG (FCG). ERA and NCC will work with FCG to build the voluntary market for Darkwoods offsets in Germany and throughout Europe. The Pacific Carbon Trust was also an initial buyer of offsets from the first vintages of this project, which will be used to meet their mandate to offset the emissions of the British Columbia government’s public sector operations.
Dr. Robert Falls, ERA’s Chairman, commented: “It is a great pleasure to participate in the development and launch of this ground breaking project. NCC has demonstrated their leadership in conceiving this project, and has demonstrated carbon’s powerful role in conservation. 3GreenTree has done brilliant work in leading the development of this new VCS Methodology, and in the composition of the project design document. Additionally, both the PCT and FCG deserve special recognition for their important role in supporting Darkwoods through their purchase of tonnes from the initial vintages.”
Mike Vitt, Managing Director of 3GreenTree added, "The Darkwoods Carbon Project is a tremendous accomplishment for NCC. It shows the value in forest carbon has moved from theory to reality, and emphasizes how well carbon fits with protecting biodiversity and other ecosystem values. A key to the success of this project were the partners that were brought together - from NCC's leading edge conservation capabilities through to ERA's remarkable global carbon market reach and the key buyer demand from FCG and PCT, the project had all the right pieces.”
