New Record Highs For Dow Jones Transports and Russell 2000 A Very Positive Signal

January 28th, 2013

Mitchell Clark: One of the biggest surprises recently has been the powerful breakout of the Dow Jones Transportation Average. It has been years since this index broke out of a trading range with such fervor. Within the index, components such as Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP), FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX), Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK), J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. (NASDAQ:JBHT) and Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE:LUV) have all recently experienced strong price momentum on the stock market. It’s as if investor sentiment just changed on a dime.

And this is powerful; this is how stock market rallies begin—all of a sudden the world is different and institutional investors just start buying.

28.01.13 Marktsicht

Keep on trucking: YRC Worldwide leads list of carriers

Dallas-Fort Worth sits in the middle of the country in a spot where  multiple interstate and other highways come together in a labyrinth of  busy roadways. That makes DFW a prime location for companies in the  transportation and logistics business.

We see truck after truck every day carrying goods on North Texas  highways, many of which carry the familiar logos of some of the nation's  largest trucking companies.

YRC Worldwide led the way in the latest Dallas Business Journal  list of the largest trucking companies in North Texas, with 15,602  trucks companywide. The Kansas-based company with operations in Irving  also has 50,861 trailers.

Swift Transportation wasn’t far behind, with 15,000 trucks.

Third place went to J.B. Hunt Transportation Services Inc., which has  10,900 trucks. Estes Express Lines followed with 6,131 trucks, while  fifth was Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. with 6,000 trucks.

The complete listing is available via the digital edition or on page 16 in this week's print edition.

YRC Überblick von September 26, 2012...YRC Worldwide And Nokia - Huge Potential Turnaround Stories

YRC Worldwide

YRC Worldwide had been on the  brink of bankruptcy for three years. After several restructurings,  negotiations with lenders, reverse stocks splits and an entire new  management team put into place last year, it appears that things are  FINALLY on the mend. Consider the following recent developments:

(1) Renegotiated pension obligations - obligations over next few years are significantly lower now after negotiations with Teamsters.

(2) Extended terms with its lenders so there are no obligations until late 2014.

(3) Booked first operating profit in over 4 years.

(4) Regionals are taking market share away from competitors -- regional revs grew close to 10% last quarter.

(5)  New management team has focused on better customer service and improved  delivery times. To that end, it has improved on time deliveries from  the low 60% level to over 80%.

(6) On a pro forma basis after  taking into account the Union Pension Cessation and Cash Interest / LC  Fees benefit in 2011, adjusted FCF improved by $46.4M last quarter.

(7)  S&P recently gave the company's $400 Million ABL Facility a  Recovery "1" Rating, the second best possible recovery rating.

(8) EBITDA jumped almost 10% as a result of a focus on higher margin business at YRC Freight and a reduction in overall costs.

(9)  New CEO James Welch has the company focused exclusively on the North  American LTL operations, and has divested non-core assets like Jiayu,  Glen Moore and excess real estate.

As a comparison, take a look at  another heavily indebted company that had negative equity / no equity  and was losing money: Sirius. SIRI had no equity and about $3 billion in  debt in 2009, and was losing over $300 million. However, it had also  just turned an operating profit for the first time in a long time in  2009, and right around that time, the stock bottomed out and proceeded  to rise 50-fold over the next three years.

While the negative story sounds like the more articulate one with YRCW, the company has already turned an operating profit and CEO Welch maintains that positive net income is coming in 2013.  If this happens, the stock could do a quantum leap higher, as it is  currently being left for dead. As it stands right now, at a $50 million  market cap, the company trades at 0.01 times sales versus an industry  average of 0.35.

YRC Freight recorded $21.1 million in positive operating income in the fourth quarter which was a $47.8 million year-over-year increase and the second consecutive positive operating income quarter.  The operating ratio improved 600 basis points over the comparable prior year period to a six-year, fourth quarter low of 97.3. "The improvement in profitability is the result of intense focus on productivity improvements at each individual terminal and the continuation of our strategy to improve our customer mix," stated Jeff Rogers, president of YRC Freight.  "We have made solid gains in customer service, safety and freight handling efficiencies, and now our financial results are starting to tell the story.  We are entering 2013 from a position of strength, and we will continue building on our momentum by executing on our operational plans and strategies this year.  I can feel the confidence of our team, and it is bolstered by the positive feedback we have received from our customers," Rogers said.

"During the fourth quarter of 2012, our Regional group continued to deliver solid results," stated Welch.  "Our Regional group consistently produces results that are competitive within the industry and each successive quarter they continue to build on their profitability with operational improvements and efficiencies.  Through the dedication of its employees, our Regional group delivered full-year operating income of $70.0 million and a 95.7 operating ratio, which led the way for our company and is one of the best operating ratios in the public LTL industry.  I'm very proud of the accomplishments of the Holland, Reddaway and New Penn teams," Welch said.

Liquidity

At December 31, 2012, the company's liquidity, including cash, cash equivalents and availability under its $400 million multi-year asset-based loan facility (ABL), was $251.3 million.  The ABL borrowing base was $369.8 million as of December 31, 2012 as compared to $375.9 million as of September 30, 2012.
