immediate ‘up or down vote’ on fiscal bill
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Md.) heralded the “uncharacteristically very strong, bipartisan way” that the Senate voted early Tuesday to pass the measure with 89 votes.
“Up until now, our Speaker has said when the Senate acts, we will have a vote in the House. That is what he said, that is what we expect, that is what the American people deserve.
“It’s only been a matter of a couple of months since the election, eight weeks, and that period of time we’ve been pushed even into a new year. It’s long overdue for us to have this solution to go forward and remove all doubt as to what comes next for our country,” she added.
“We expect, the American people deserve, an up or down vote on what was passed in the Senate,” she added.
Neither Pelosi nor House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) would say how many Democrats they expect to vote for the plan, offering only that members plan to continue reviewing the legislation through the afternoon.
“I don’t think there’s any doubt we’ll have bipartisanship” in the House, Hoyer said.
