Barry Silbert: Ich habe im Sommer 2011 das erste Mal davon gehört. Damals lag der Preis bei etwa 30 Dollar pro Bitcoin, fast nichts, und dann ist der Kurs auch noch eingebrochen. Die Idee einer nicht regulierten, dezentralen Währung war faszinierend, aber als der Kurs absackte, habe ich sie verworfen. Ich dachte, das sei das Ende. Aber in den nächsten sechs Monaten begann der Preis sich zu erholen, es ging von einem Dollar auf zwei Dollar, auf fünf Dollar. Da habe ich angefangen, nachzuforschen. Und ich habe erkannt, was für ein  riesiges Potential in Bitcoins steckt.

FOCUS Online: Welches denn?

Silbert: Als erstes wird sich Bitcoin unter Investoren als Geldanlage verbreiten, wie Gold. Wir sehen schon, dass sich die Wall Street beginnt, sich für Bitcoins zu interessieren und zu investieren. Wenn die Nachfrage anzieht, steigt der Preis und der Bitcoin-Reichtum konzenriert sich in den Händen einiger weniger. Dann hätte Amazon einen Grund, Bitcoins zu akzeptieren. Wenn Amazon erstmal damit anfängt, wird es immer mehr Tauschgeschäfte geben und die Währung wird einfacher handelbar. Es wird erst eine Geldanlage sein, dann eine Währung und dann ein globales Überweisungsnetzwerk.
