Zen2 7nm is being leveraged into an Automotive ADAS SOC with innovative AMD machine learning software in partnership with Automotive Manufacturers. This is the AMD $10B TAM in Automotive and Inference product that AMD has yet to announce.
ADAS is estimated to be a $70B by 2020. AMD is timing this one perfectly
One way I have learned as a source of competitive technical intelligence (CTI) is from reading a company’s web posted job listings. Sometimes companies inadvertently reveal their future plans during the hiring process.
In 2016 when Jim Keller finished RyZen, he left AMD to lead the Tesla AutoPilot Project. At that time AMD had job listings for ADAS development. Since then they have sanitized these job listings to remove the CTI data below.
These job listings indicate that AMD has an ADAS SOC. And most importantly AMD is now developing software as a more highly integrated end user product.
AMD is about to become more than a chip maker! AMD will do as Lisa Su promised, “provide solutions”.
Here are the best ADAS job listings I found.
Machine Learning Programmer:
“Working directly with top OEM customers to set new autonomous vehicle AI/DNN performance criteria on existing and future products. You will be pioneering entirely new automotive solutions based on AMD’s SoC for deep neural networks for autonomous platforms. You lead a part of an engineering development team with full-lifecycle ADAS experience from product inception through to release of one or more functional safety elements, such as lane departure warning, blind-spot detection, adaptive cruise control, sensor fusion, Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) networking, LIDAR, radar, or image processing.”
“Technical Automotive Platform Architect” “This is a highly visible position interacting directly with our Tier-1 and OEM automotive partners to create, refine and champion AMD automotive solutions. In this role you will also have the opportunity to design and build specialized software, hardware and quality processes from the ground up. Advanced Technologies Group is a [Santa Clara] startup group with a mission to advance the future of safer transportation as we look to bring millions of drivers into assisted and automated driving. We develop artificial intelligence perception software for driver-assistance and automated driving, with a focus on implementing efficient deep neural networks on AMD’s automotive-grade processors.
Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) have become the most accurate and robust approach for object detection, as well as other environmental perception problems, that are necessary for safer driver-assistance and automated driving.
