The UK subsidiary of Spain’s Iberdrola has lined up Siemens' 7MW turbine for its 714MW East Anglia 1 offshore wind project.
ScottishPower Renewables will deploy up to 102 of the turbines for the UK Round 3 project off England’s east coast.
The value of the turbine deal is estimated by industry sources to be between £750m and £850m ($1.15bn–$1.3bn), meaning it could account for nearly half of the £2bn project.
The blades are set to be made at Siemens’ new turbine complex in Hull, just up the coast from East Anglia 1.
East Anglia 1 won UK government backing in the first competitive round for contract-for-difference (CfD) support.
Construction work is due to begin in 2017, with turbine installation in 2019 and full operation a year later.
