Freenet segments to be sold this year, CEO favours DSL tie-up with UI - report
FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Freenet AG (Nachrichten/Aktienkurs) 's two segments, DSL and mobile phone operations, will be sold before the end of the year to the holding company formed by United Internet AG and Drillisch AG, Financial Times Deutschland reported, citing banking sources.
Subsequently, the holding company, which was founded to work together on a takeover of Freenet, will be dissolved, it said.
The plans of both companies envisage the takeover of Freenet's mobile phone segment by Drillisch for about 600 mln eur, it added, while the DSL business would be bought by United Internet.
After that, United Internet would buy Drillisch's stake in the holding, the paper said.
Yesterday, Freenet chief executive Eckhard Spoerr urged United Internet and Drillisch to decide quickly on the details of a strategic partnership with the company.
In a separate article in Die Welt, Spoerr was quoted as saying he favours co-operation with United Internet in the DSL segment.
