Xemplar Energy Corp. was first brought to your attention on 11 Oct 2007 at @ $2.19 with an indicated price objective of $4.40. It was again shown on 22 Oct 2007 at $3.08 with the expectation of still higher prices ahead. I have had requests for updates on XE so I guess it’s time again for one.
The chart shows both the short term and intermediate term moving averages and momentum indicators. The first thing one notices is the continuing weakening in the momentum indicators with both providing a serious negative divergence versus price action. From a short term perspective everything first went bearish in mid-December but quickly recovered only to go bearish again in early January and has remained BEARISH ever since.
From the intermediate term perspective things are not quite as clear. First we have the breaking of the second decelerating FAN trend line, which indicated a reversal of trend. The breaking of the third FAN trend line, which has not yet occurred, would be the confirmation of such reversal. The stock has only recently moved below its intermediate term moving average line and the line itself has only turned to the down side a couple of days ago. The intermediate term momentum indicator has been in a downward spiral for some time now and has remained below its trigger line (not shown) since 02 Jan 2008. It has not quite entered its negative zone and is still in the positive zone so there is still some hope that the intermediate term may soon turn around but it would take very little extra downside to put this momentum into the negative. Unfortunately, based upon my method of determining the stock ratings, XE intermediate term is rated as BEARISH.
Since the usual scenario is for the short term to turn around first I would be inclined to wait for the short term to do so before risking any additional capital.
What should one do if one is holding XE? Well the weekly TABLE of technical information and ratings went NEG (BEARISH) on the intermediate term last week and has been NEG (BEARISH) on the short term for some time. The long term is still POS (BULLISH) but that could change if the weakness in price continues. Everyone has different investment/speculative strategies so I cannot say what any individual should do. One might discuss the situation with one’s broker or investment advisor.
